Sprocket Printer Review

Expert review of the Sprocket printer

Our Verdict:

The HP Sprocket is a pocket-sized printer that enables photos to be printed as soon as they have been taken. With both a USB port and wireless connectivity, it can be used to print in any manner that is convenient for the user. For those who want to be able to instantly access physical photos and like to make use of the latest gadgets, the HP Sprocket will be a great option. For those looking for something in this niche area, the HP Sprocket may fit their needs but the majority of people would be better served by a full sized printer.

Design

The HP Sprocket is the ultimate device in compact printers as it offers a pocket-sized solution to instantly obtain photographs. At 2.95 x 0.90 x 4.56 inches, the printer is comparable in size to a mobile phone and is similarly just as easy to transport. It comprises of a USB 2.0 port for connection to a phone and is also capable of wireless connectivity via Bluetooth. The size of the photo it can produce is 1.96 x 2.99 inches which is just the perfect size.

Advantages

The compact size of the HP Sprocket and the fact that it weighs only 172g makes it easy to transport alongside a smartphone. It is used with an app and can work with both Android and iOS systems. It offers a convenient way in which to instantly obtain high quality photos that have a resolution of 313 x 400 dpi.

Disadvantages

In the same way that a mobile phone can be easily dropped, the process of using the HP Sprocket can cause it to fall if not paying enough attention. The only wireless connection is via Bluetooth 3.0, which can seem slow and restrictive for those more familiar with using Wi-Fi. It comprises a single sheet feeder so if multiple photos are required, they will need to be set up individually which can feel time-consuming for some users. Having to carry two device around with you is inconvenient compared to solutions from others who have integrated a camera into the unit.
