Kodak designed the Hero 6.1 to be a multifunction printer that can simplify basic office tasks and lower running costs. The printer is capable of multitasking and duplex printing. Wireless connectivity ensures users can print directly from their mobile device. However, the poor speed can get in the way of productivity.
Design
Notwithstanding the weight (21.2 lbs) and bulk (10.2 inches tall, 18.9 inches wide, and 17 inches in diameter) of this multifunction device, the Kodak Hero 6.1 is a good addition to a small office. It integrates a copier, scanner, and fax machine and features a fixed 2.4-inch colour LCD display on the angled control panel for easy viewing and access. It boasts multiple options for PC-free printing with memory card slots and PictBridge. The Kodak Hero 6.1 has a 33.6 Kbps fax machine and a scanner with an enhanced 9600 dpi resolution for better quality output.
Advantages
Wi-Fi is one of the biggest perks of this printer. It is easy to set-up within a small network. Users can print directly from a tablet PC or smartphone with apps like Kodak Pic Flick and Google Cloud Print apps. PC faxing is supported by the Kodak Hero 6.1, as well as direct printing from memory cards and digital cameras. Ink cartridges used by the Kodak Hero 6.1 are also more affordable and produce great-looking pictures. Other perks like duplex printing, printable templates, and the ability to print 3D pictures are also integrated.
Disadvantages
While it was intended as an all around office printer, the Hero 6.1 is actually more efficient as a professional photo printer. At its maximum speed, the Kodak Hero 6.1 can only do as many as 8.5 ppm in monochrome and 5.5 ppm in colour. Some users also report difficulty in set up and installation.
