  • I need colour and black ink cartridges for my X4850 printer. The last ones were No. 41 and No. 42 cartridges but your website says that No. 43 and No. 44 cartridges fit. Is that correct? Kind regards, John.

    Replacement Lexmark X4850 ink cartridges

    Yes, any of the cartridges listed on this page work in the Lexmark X4850 Wireless All-in-One printer. The Lexmark No. 41 and No. 42 ink cartridges are the standard capacity black and tri-colour inks whereas the Lexmark No. 43 and No. 44 are the high capacity black and tri-colour ink cartridges. As long as you have one black and one tri-colour cartridge installed in your Lexmark X4850 printer you can use any combination of the Lexmark 41, 42, 43 and 44 cartridges regardless of whether they're standard or high capacity. There's also a photo colour Lexmark No. 40 ink cartridge that can work in the black ink slot to give better quality photo prints. We suggest that if you print regularly the high capacity Lexmark 43XL and 44XL ink cartridges will work out to be more economical and give you better value for money.

Our Verdict:

The Lexmark X4850 is a wireless multifunction device that is built for small groups. It boasts one-touch functions for PC-free scanning and copying. Users like its direct printing capabilities, too. Users can get creative with their printouts because of versatile paper handling, but they need to be patient in getting the Wi-Fi to work and endure the sluggish speeds of the X4850 printer.

Design

The Lexmark X4850 all-in-one resembles its predecessor and it retains most of the previous model's specifications, too. The X4850 is 7 inches tall, 13.8 inches deep, and 17.9 inches wide, with a 100-sheet input tray attached at the back and a 25-sheet output tray that can be extended. The top part is occupied mostly by a flatbed scanner and to the right-hand corner lies the control panel with the flip-up colour LCD display.

Advantages

The adjustable 60mm colour LCD screen allows for easy viewing of the printer status and files before printing them directly from a memory card, flash drive, or digital camera. The Lexmark X4850 is Energy Star-certified and easy to carry because of its compact frame. The excellent flatbed scanner can scan in high resolutions up to 19200x19200dpi. Wi-Fi is a standard networking feature for cable-free printing, while intuitive buttons allow for standalone copying and printing with the X4850.

Disadvantages

Speed is sub-par when compared to other inkjet multifunction printers, and the Lexmark X4850 photo printer becomes slower when printing photos and colour documents, too. Lexmark has now discontinued the X4850 multifunction printer so it may be difficult to find good technical support and affordable consumables for it. Users also complained about the Wi-Fi set-up of the Lexmark X-4850 because it is unstable and difficult to configure.
