Xerox ColorQube 8570DT Printer Review

Expert review of the Xerox ColorQube 8570DT printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The Xerox ColorQube 8750DT is a paper-handling powerhouse, with a base offering of 625 sheets and the potential for thousands more. It is a robust, solid ink offering, which prints on a wide range of papers and features drop-in ink replacement. It also has a high rated print speed and is a solid long-term investment, due to its low running costs for printing, scanning and copying in both mono and colour.

Design

The Xerox ColorQube 8750DT has a unique double-wave design, which favours classic button inputs rather than a digital display, for easy operation. It looks quite conventional and attractive and would suit any small to large office space. The main paper tray houses 525 sheets of paper, though three more 500-sheet trays can be installed if required.

Advantages

Melted ink produces vibrant colours and sharp text and the printer is capable of outputting 40 pages per minute according to the manufacturer, though it comes a shade under this during real world tests. Where this printer really excels is in printing duplex documents. A multi-page document, printed on both sides returned a speed of more than 22 sides per minute, which is faster on a page-image basis than printing single-sided. It also has a low energy footprint and is highly expandable. Additional trays can increase its output to an incredible 2,200 sheets.

Disadvantages

The 8750DT takes up a larger footprint than other models due to its bulky size, and it suffers from a noisy feed mechanism. The use of solid ink means the printer is required to warm up for around five minutes before it can be used, which can be a hassle during an early office run. Images also lack the subtlety offered by laser-powered rivals, and connection options are limited to wired Ethernet. A USB drive cannot be used with the ColorQube 8750DT.
