Expert review of the Canon i-SENSYS MF231 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The Canon i-SENSYS MF-231 is compact, reliable, and fast; perfect for home offices of every size. This particular model, which is a mono laser printer, boasts superior printing, efficient copying, and professional scanning quality, as well as USB connectivity. A great all-rounder, this machine has an easily interpreted interface that will please even technophobic users.

Design

Measuring approximately 390 x 371 x 312mm, and weighing a little over 10.1kg, the Canon i-SENSYS MF-231 boasts an LCD display, monochrome printing, media handling that includes plain and coloured paper, labels, index cards, and envelopes, and a duty cycle of 15,000 pages per month, as well as a memory of 128mb. The printer is designed to handle a variety of tasks, and has a print volume of between 500 and 2,000 pages. It is compatible with Linux, MAC OS X Version 10.6 and up, and up to Windows version 10.

Advantages

With its ‘intuitive’ user interface, toner saver mode, and simple design, the Canon i-SENSYS MF-231 is a great home printer capable of tackling a variety of projects. This 3-in-1 machine prints with a maximum resolution of 600 x 600 dpi and a quality of 1200 x 1200 dpi, handling an impressive 23 pages per minute. Its copying capabilities include a task time of 9 seconds or less for the first page and a 600 x 600 dpi, as well as the ability to produce 999 copies at any one time. In addition to printing and copying the machine’s scan function can create documents at a dpi of 9600 x 9600 once enhanced, and can read original text and images in just 3-4 seconds depending on whether the project is monochrome or colour. A variety of formats including PDF, JPEG, TIFF and searchable PDF can be created, and users have the ability to create scans in the cloud – a handy feature to have for those concerned with document storage and security.

Disadvantages

The Canon i-SENSYS MF-231 works in monochrome only, while its inability to connect to wireless Internet, or be used in conjunction with email, may deter users from choosing this model.
