Kyocera FS-6020 Printer Review

Expert review of the Kyocera FS-6020 printer

Our Verdict:

The Kyocera FS-6020 is a monochrome laser printer aimed at small offices that need a speedy and reliable machine for their basic document production. The compact Kyocera FS-6020 A3 laser printer promises crisp and sharp output because of the high resolution, but the outdated interface, lack of networking, and absence of colour printing are some of the setbacks.

Weighing 18Kg and measuring 18.4 inches wide, 12.2 inches tall, and 16.1 inches deep, the Kyocera Mita FS-6020 desktop printer is a boxy unit with a rugged enclosure, yet the understated design allows it to fit inconspicuously into any office environment. There is a small display screen in the control panel. Two media feeders are integrated into the unit, and the standard media capacity is 350 sheets. The FS6020 mono laser printer runs on 16MB of RAM and a 200MHz processor by Motorola. Connectivity is only via a parallel interface.

The built-in memory is expandable to 144MB and the maximum media size that the Kyocera FS 6020 printer can handle is 11.7 x 17 inches. It is possible to upgrade the paper capacity to 1,350 sheets. The Kyocera FS-6020 workgroup printer supports standard PostScript, fonts, and language simulation, including EPSON LQ and Diablo 630. The high 1200x1200dpi resolution ensures very legible and sharp text documents. A long-life process unit ensures that users only need to change the Kyocera FS-6020 toner rather than a complete cartridge. This reduces maintenance and the cost of the consumables for the FS6020.

It does not have built-in Ethernet and other networking features despite being marketed as a workgroup printer. The Kyocera FS-6020 can only connect to a computer via a parallel interface. Two-sided printing is optional. The device tends to be sluggish and there is no support for computers running on Mac or Linux. The Kyocera FS-6020 can only print on a limited selection of media and it does not include transparencies, glossy sheets, and heavyweight paper.
