Expert review of the Samsung ML-1710B printer
The Samsung ML-1710B is a monochrome laser printer that uses what is known as True Laser printing to create great-quality results. The text is noticeably sharp and crisp, with no tendency toward bleeding or smudging in the middle of a run. In terms of media, this printer can handle multiple sizes of paper, along with envelopes, labels, postcards and transparencies. With a stylish design, this printer is quite a lot smaller than others in its class, and without the bulk, it will take up very little space on a desk.
Design
The Samsung ML-1710B measures a slimline 13.7 x 14 x 7.6 inches and weighs 15.2lbs, so it can be moved around the office or home as needed. It comes with a user manual and a driver CD to aid installation. The paper tray is capable of holding 250 sheets, which should be sufficient for most small offices and homes. To keep more complex runs going smoothly, there is 8GB of onboard memory, and the USB 1.1 port adds an extra dimension of connectivity to speed up the process further. Each month, the maximum duty cycle can reach around 15,000 pages.
Advantages
As well as being conveniently compact, the Samsung ML-1710B can produce an impressive 17 pages per minute and a maximum dpi of 600 x 600. This machine has been developed with a feature that Samsung calls Toner Saver, which has its own button on the interface. Once selected, the printer will respond by using 40% less toner than it usually would, with no significant difference to print quality. The time to the first print is 12 seconds, though prior to this, there is a warm-up period of 30 seconds.
Disadvantages
Although the Samsung ML-1710B has a USB port, there is no cord included in the box, which will disappoint many buyers. Furthermore, there is no colour output.
