The Epson WorkForce WF-100 is a portable printer with the ability to print in both mono and colour. The printer is light enough to be easily carried, so it is suitable for someone travelling on public transport. This printer will also suit someone who is mostly based in one location but needs to have the capacity to print elsewhere at times.

If used frequently, the running costs of this machine will quickly mount up, but running costs are in line with other portable printing devices. The quality of printing is good, and this model produces professional-looking results for most business needs.

Design

The size of the Epson WorkForce WF100 is 309 x 154 x 61mm. The case unfolds to provide a paper feed tray and paper output tray. A 37-mm colour LCD display is used to check the status, and buttons are used to navigate the printer. It connects via a USB lead or wirelessly.

Two ink cartridges, one black and one tri-colour, hold dry-fast pigment inks. The print resolution is 5,760 x 1,440dpi. Maximum printer speeds are 14ppm in mono and 11ppm in colour, but speeds are slower when working on battery, which takes three hours to recharge. Charging can be carried out via USB, the bundled AC adaptor or a USB car adaptor.

Advantages

The print quality of the Epson WorkForce WF-100 is good for both documents and graphics. The portable nature and battery power mean that it is possible to print anywhere, and the machine is light enough to be easily carried. The pigment inks ensure the finished printout dries quickly and remains smudge-free.

Disadvantages

The Epson WorkForce WF-100 requires a maintenance kit, which needs to be replaced every 300 pages, requiring extra expense. Printing is slow, particularly when on battery, and cost per page is high compared to desktop printers, while the battery runs low when large volumes are printed.
