  • Hi there, I have a Photosmart 145 and the print quality is very poor. The prints come out very green and it's showing on the screen I have a low print level but not empty. If I replace the ink cartridge will it fix this problem or do you think the printer is at fault? I don't want to waste money replacing the ink cartridge only to find that the printer is at fault. I look forward to your reply.

    Poor colour quality

The Photosmart 145 printer uses tri-colour cartridges and once one colour has depleted you may start to notice that your colour quality will decline even though there is some remaining ink in the cartridge. It does sound like you will need to buy a replacement HP 57 colour cartridge although we cannot absolutely guarantee that this will solve the problem.

  • Hi, I have a HP Photosmart 145 printer. Does it take black ink as the cartridge that's recommended only has three colours? Please advise ? Many thanks, D. Cullen.

    Black ink for Photosmart 145

The HP Photosmart 145 printer only uses a single tri-colour HP 57 ink cartridge. Any blacks in colour photos will be a composite of all available colours found in the HP 57 tri-colour cartridge. For black and white photos, it's possible to use a HP 59 photo grey ink cartridge which you must swap with the tri-colour cartridge although this ink has been discontinued and is no longer available here at Cartridge Save.

HP Photosmart 145 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Photosmart 145 printer

Our Verdict:

A portable photo printer with borderless printing options, the HP Photosmart 145 offers faster print speeds than previous Photosmart models. It can now deliver 4x6-inch pictures in only 90 seconds – that's half the time earlier units take to print same-size photos. The machine can operate without needing PC connection, as it offers direct printing from memory cards and compatible cameras. However, the Photosmart 145 only comes with a single tri-colour cartridge, which means users will have to buy a special photo grey ink for better quality black and white prints.

The HP Photosmart 145 has a basic design, featuring a fold-up paper tray that can handle up to 20 pieces of photo paper. It also has a 2-line LCD display for minor layout adjustments, surrounding which are control buttons for basic printer functions. There are also several slots for memory cards, which makes the HP Photosmart 145 compatible to virtually all digital cameras.

Built for portable photo printing, the Photosmart 145 supports various types of memory sticks from CompactFlash to SD MultiMedia Card, xD-Picture Card, and even SmartMedia and Memory Stick. It also has USB connectivity for easy PC hook-up, and comes with a photo imaging software that allows users to adjust photo quality and edit pictures for printing. Of course, the HP 145 Photosmart printer is very lightweight at just 2.9 pounds.

One disadvantage of the HP Photosmart 145 is slower operation when using the 'best' setting. Also, the Photosmart 145 is a rather rigid device which can only handle standard 4x6 inch photo paper, limiting users to small-format pictures.
