Excellent for the household and the discerning amateur photographer, the HP Photosmart 7450 is an entry-level photo printer that promises high-quality photo prints. However, many users wish it consumed less ink and had better drivers for compatibility with newer operating systems.

Design

This sleek inkjet photo printer is reliant on its USB 2.0 interface to work with your Mac or PC. HP improved its speed by giving it a 16MB RAM, but the monthly duty cycle of only 1,000 pages is still quite low. There are 6 expansion slots for memory cards on the HP Photosmart 7450 so you can directly print from an xD-picture card, memory stick, SD memory card, SmartMedia Card, CompactFlash card, and multimedia card (Type I/II).

Advantages

The HP Photosmart 7450 is surprisingly fast and output quality is not sacrificed even when printing on transparencies, photo paper, and iron-on transfers. It can also do borderless printing, and the resolution for photo prints can be enhanced to 4800x1200 dpi using the HP PhotoREt IV image enhancement technology. The HP Photosmart 7450 also boasts speedy memory card readers.

Disadvantages

The HP Photosmart 7450 deserves better software and drivers for more efficiency. Ink consumption is another problem; the printer uses too much ink, and the 17ml cartridges are not high-yield.
