The Panasonic KX-FC268 is a digital answering system incorporating a phone and fax machine. It is designed for office use, where it will fit conveniently onto a desk. It has a number of useful features, including caller ID, an enhanced copier function and a hands-free speakerphone. With the ability to support up to six handsets, it can be used by multiple users, while the ability to make conference calls will be useful in a modern workplace. However, as the fax printing speed is slow, this device will not increase efficiency, and many of the functions can be found in much faster printers.
The base of the Panasonic KXFC268 measures 374 x 200 x 106 mm, with the wireless handset measuring 48 x 30 x 158 mm. The dark-coloured design of the device fits in well with most office colour schemes. Paper capacity is 20 sheets. Transmission speed is 12 seconds per page. You can monitor the machine and check calls using the three-lined, backlit LCD screen. The device is controlled from a keypad on the front.
The Panasonic KX-FC268 includes a speakerphone for hands-free calling. Calls and faxes can be received and stored when no one is present. Caller ID allows calls to be screened and numbers stored. A junk fax prohibitor prevents fax reception from undesired callers, saving on paper wastage. There is support for up to six DECT handsets. Conference calls can also be made from the phone.
The print speeds of the Panasonic KX-FC268 are on the slow side, and the thermal method of printing means that you have to make sure that the correct type of paper is used. Given the speed of emails and the ability of many printers to scan, copy and fax, this device may not add any real utility to the office.
