Panasonic KX-FC278 Printer Review
Expert review of the Panasonic KX-FC278 printer
The Panasonic KX-FC278 is a thermal facsimile machine incorporating a phone, answering service and fax machine. The compact size allows it to fit easily onto a desk, making it useful in a small or home office. Useful features include caller ID, delayed transmission and a hands-free speakerphone. Support for additional handsets makes this machine useful for multiple workers. However, the fax printing speed is slow, and many of the functions can be found on much faster printers.
Design
The base of the Panasonic KX-FC278 measures 367 x 200 x 106 mm, with the wireless handset measuring 48 x 30 x 158 mm. The device comes in a pale-grey colour that is suitable for most office colour schemes. The machine is monitored and numbers are checked using the three-lined, backlit LCD screen on the front. There is a keypad to control the operations. Paper capacity is 20 sheets and it has a 10-sheet document feeder, while the transmission speed is 12 seconds per page.
Advantages
For increased efficiency, the Panasonic KX-FC278 includes a speakerphone allowing hands-free calling. Faxes can be received and stored when no one is present, while the digital answer system holds around 15 minutes of messages. It is possible to screen who can call or fax with caller ID and the junk fax prohibitor. Conference calls can be made from the phone, and there is support for up to six DECT handsets.
Disadvantages
With fairly slow printing speeds, the Panasonic KX-FC278 will not increase efficiency, and the thermal method of printing means that you are limited in your choice of paper used in the machine. With no facility to scan or print, you are likely to need to purchase a printer in any case, and many printers can fax and copy with a greater efficiency than this device.
