The Brother QL-800 is a label printer with the ability to print in both black and red. This ability gives it countless uses across a number of industrial sectors, including retail, food and postage, with labels suitable for both indoor and outdoor usage. Using thermal technology, the machine produces good-quality labels at rapid speeds. It offers a wide range of label sizes up to a maximum width of 82mm, and there is an in-built cutter that ensures labels are the required length. The machine is limited by the need to connect via a USB, which can be problematic for companies that wish to do work via smart devices. The cost per label is quite high, and although the ability to print red is an advantage, this is limited to one label type only.
Design
The Brother QL800 produces labels using direct thermal technology. Connection is achieved via a USB interface. Measuring just 125 x 213 x 142 mm, this labelling machine is a small device. Resolution is 300 dpi. Standard print speeds are 93 labels per minute or 148mm per second.
Advantages
With free software, it is easy to create labels using the Brother QL-800. Built-in editing software is included. It prints in black and red without the need for toner. A built-in cutter makes sure labels are the precise length needed. Initial setup of the device is easy. Print labels up to 82mm wide with various tape sizes. The labels created are suitable for both indoor and outdoor usage. It has achieved Energy Star accreditation.
Disadvantages
The cost per label created using the Brother QL800 is fairly high. The red option is limited to one label type. It needs to be plugged into a PC to create labels, and there is no facility for wireless printing.
