The HP 179fnw printer is an affordable and compact multifunction printer that will fit all offices and provides very fast printing, especially in monochrome. It also offers security features ideal for shared office environments, and the paper input tray capacity of 150 pages is also well-suited for small workgroups.

Design

Touted as the smallest printer in its class, the HP 179fnw laser printer does not look any smaller to the naked eye, but it does have a more compact footprint due to the somewhat shallower depth measurement. It has a fixed control panel and a basic two-line LCD display, complete with cursors, as well as a built-in Wi-Fi and USB and ethernet connections on the rear panel. A 40-sheet ADF located on top of the printer, together with an A4-size scanner bed underneath, help line-up printing, scanning, copying and faxing jobs.

Advantages

The print speed of 18 pages per minute for monochrome documents is fast, and the HP 179fnw toner printer is also one of the most affordable printers in its class. It is compatible with both Google Cloud Print and Apple Air-Print, enabling easy wireless operation with a smartphone. The companion app, known as AP Smart Print, is quite helpful for those wanting to scan and print from the cloud. If your Wi-Fi network goes down while you are in the middle of a job, the device helpfully includes a Type B USB cable.

Disadvantages

The fact that there is only one paper input tray in the HP 179fnw colour printer can be irritating when trying to switch between different paper sizes, and it is not compatible with envelopes or card stock of any size. There are also a few missing features, including an auto-duplex mode.
