HP LaserJet 2100se Printer Review

Expert review of the HP LaserJet 2100se printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The HP LaserJet 2100se printer is aimed at busy individuals and workgroups that need a reliable workhorse for high-quality text printing and graphics that retain clarity despite being in grey-scale. This printer is fairly compact for a small office and well-appointed for versatile paper capacity and connectivity options, but the LaserJet 2100se lacks fast print speeds and can be expensive to run when using original HP 2100se toner cartridges.

Design

The HP LaserJet 2100se is a boxy and heavy device that weighs 11.52Kg and measures 16 inches wide, 9.1 inches tall, and 16.5 inches deep. The understated enclosure lets it stand inconspicuously on a desktop, but the HP 2100se laser printer is still versatile enough to accommodate a wired or wireless connection for networks and single-PC users alike. The monochrome print engine runs on a 66MHz Intel processor with 4MB of standard RAM.

Advantages

It prints text and graphics well in 1200x1200dpi, and it is reliable enough for high volume printing in the small office. The compact frame of the HP LaserJet 2100se doesn't demand too much installation space. Users can upgrade the memory up to 52MB and print on a maximum media size of 8.5x14 inches. The HP LaserJet 2100se monochrome laser printer uses a high-capacity toner cartridge, which is good for up to 5,000 pages.

Disadvantages

Upgrading the HP LaserJet 2100se to accommodate additional paper trays, RAM, and network-friendly options means spending a lot of money. The device doesn't offer built-in Ethernet and users should buy a separate network card if they wish to share the HP LaserJet 2100se with a workgroup. Paper handling is not too versatile with the lack of an envelope feeder and an automatic duplexer. Any review of the HP LaserJet 2100se printer would not be complete without mentioning the sluggish print speeds that can only go up to 10ppm, which is less when compared to other laser printers.
