Design

The HP LaserJet Pro M521dne single-function laser printer is a relatively compact machine that is suited to the smaller office environment. Weighing in at 18.92 pounds, the printer is suited to table-top use, while the unit as a whole measures 15 inches wide by 14.06 inches deep by just 8.5 inches high. The simple, functional look of the printer is completed with the addition of an easy-to-read two-line backlit LCD display that will allow users to check on task status or aid with the input of commands on the simple top-mounted keypad.

Advantages

This HP LaserJet Pro M521dne has a fast first page print time of just 5.6 seconds, and is capable of achieving resolutions of up to 4,800 x 600 enhanced dpi. This compact printer is a space-saving solution for smaller offices where simple document printing is the priority. A respectable maximum monthly duty cycle of 80,000 pages is ample for the needs of a smaller team (the recommended monthly page volume is 750 to 4,000). The printer is compatible with HP ePrint, Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print programmes for easy printing on the go. It is compatible with maker’s own high-yield toner cartridges for increased page output of up to 30 per cent between changes.

Disadvantages

The lack of colour printing could be an issue for some offices. The HP LaserJet Pro M521dne does not feature any integrated scanning, copying or fax functions, meaning that these will need to be fulfilled elsewhere in the office if essential. The maximum input of 350 (200 paper tray plus 100 multipurpose tray) is a little on the low side and could mean more manual maintenance, while the lack of an automated paper sensor could be frustrating.
