  • I've been using the standard Canon colour cartridges (CLI-551) with the black (PGI-550XL). Could you tell me if it's better value to use the CLI-551XL Canon colour cartridges and also tell me whether I will be able to use them in my MG5550 printer? I understand there's more ink in the XL cartridges. Is this correct? If so, how much difference is there?

  • Hi, I have a Pixma MX925 and it takes five CLI-551XL ink cartridges. Will the printer run okay with just these four cartridges (presumably for lower quality printing) or do I always need to buy a set of five? Thanks, Nathan.

    If your printer uses five cartridges then you'll need to have them all installed with some ink in each cartridge for it to work. The Canon Pixma MX925 printer requires an additional grey CLI-551/XL ink cartridge which isn't sold in this 4 colour Canon CLI-551XL multipack as the majority of printers only use four cartridges. Therefore, if you need the additional grey Canon CLI-551/XL ink cartridge you need to order this separately as a single item.     Canon only express the capacity of these genuine CLI-551XL ink cartridges as a print yield based on how many 10 x 15xcm photos you can print at 5% coverage as indicated on our website. Each of these Canon CLI-551XL ink cartridges should contain approximately 11ml of ink but we would ask you to have this confirmed by Canon if you need the exact ink volume in ml for these cartridges.

    I always order genuine Canon inks for my Pixma 5550 printer. These cartriged are very easy to instal and print quality is reliably good. They also last a reasonable time. I could wish they were cheaper, as a full set cost more than the printer, but have had 'compatible' cartidges which weren't nearly as good so I'm sticking to Canon. Recommended.
