Though less popular than other printers from the same line, the overlooked Photosmart B8553 is an efficient home use machine with top quality photo and text printing capabilities. Speed is 33ppm for draft B&Ws, and 31ppm for colour drafts. Photo printing is also fast at 18 seconds for draft 10x15 outputs. The Photosmart B8553 likewise supports a good range of paper media. The ink tanks are small at 3mL each – a problem for heavy users, but not for typical households.

Design

The sleek design features a 6.1 cm LCD screen with colour graphics. The machine weighs approximately 7.6 kilos and is ideal for desktop use, at 580 X 389 X 181 mm. Connectivity features include a standard USB 2.0 port. There are 3 memory card slots compatible with Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, CompactFlash, SD, and xD picture cards. The Photosmart B8553 is also PictBridge compatible.

Advantages

The device comes with HP Photosmart Essential Software, which provides creative templates for greeting cards, scrap booking, and photo albums. The Photosmart B8553 is also capable of borderless printing (up to 330 x 1117 mm) and uses Vivera inks (5 individual cartridges).
