HP Photosmart C5280 Printer Review
Expert review of the HP Photosmart C5280 printer
The HP C5280 is a versatile, multifunction printer that can handle a range of media from plain paper and card to a CD or DVD and labels. The C5280 inkjet printer accepts most major memory cards, allowing you to print directly. Unfortunately, the lack of PictBridge support and only a single USB PC connection does bring it down and could pose problems for both home and office users.
Design
The stylish C5280 has a 6 cm colour LDC display and a functional 11 button control panel that provides access to a variety of print functions and even allows the end user to print directly from a memory card. The paper feed system is similar to other HP all-in-ones with its front loading input tray, capable of holding 125 sheets. There's also a CD or DVD disk tray for direct printing.
Advantages
For an entry-level all-in-one, the C5280 has a lot of things going for it. It's rammed full of features and has a great spec when you compare to similar devices on the market. Quoted print speeds of 32 ppm and 24 ppm for mono and colour draft are a tad farfetched, expect nearer to 12 and 10 for normal quality which, for a home device, is pretty nippy.
Disadvantages
The print quality of the C5280 is disappointing especially when it comes to text documents. Characters appear fuzzy with signs of fading; this only gets worse when using the copier. Photographs also cause the HP C5280 inkjet printer problems, especially when printing in draft or normal mode. HP needs to also look at USB and PictBridge support if it wants the C5280 to be a versatile home device.
