  • Is the black cartridge that comes with the set of four a photo black or just black? Thanks.

Black ink in Epson XP510 multipacks

The Epson XP-510 multipacks contain the regular black Epson 26 / 26XL cartridge. The photo black Epson 26 / 26XL ink cartridges don't come in the multipack and must be bought individually.

  • What does 26XL mean on your ink?

    Epson XP-510 ink numbers

The Epson XP-510 ink cartridges are given various part numbers to identify them. "26XL" cartridges are high capacity Epson inks belonging to the Epson 26 Polar Bear series of cartridges. The Epson XP-510 printer requires five separate inks and each colour is available in a standard size (Epson 26) or high capacity size (Epson 26XL). Therefore, cartridges marked as "26XL" contain more ink than cartridges marked "26" and should be more economical.

  • For the Epson XP-510 printer, do I need to buy both the multipack of four (which includes a black) as well as the single high capacity black? If so, can you mix an XL with the standard i.e. XL black and standard multipack?

    Epson XP-510 ink replacement

The Epson Expression Premium XP-510 all-in-one printer uses five cartridges including a regular black and a photo black. Each colour is available in a standard or high capacity (XL) size. The cartridge that isn't included in the multipacks is the photo black cartridge. Therefore, you can purchase whichever multipack you need with either 26 or 26XL cartridges as well as a single photo black 26 or 26XL cartridge for the printer. As long as you have all five of the black, photo black, cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges installed in their correct colour slots it doesn't matter if they are standard or high capacity as you can mix and match them within the XP510 printer.

  • Do you have always have to change the Epson XP-510 multipack and the single black cartridge at the same time?

    Changing Epson XP510 ink cartridges

No, you can just replace the colour which runs out in your Epson XP-510 printer but most consumers get better value by purchasing the Epson XP-510 multipack and using the separate cartridges as and when they need to install them.

  • I have an Epson XP-510 printer and I need a black ink cartridge. Which one do I choose as there are so many to choose from? There's a large one and a narrow one, the large one I seem to have has "PBKk26 setup" on it. Regards, BR Sandells.

    Epson XP-510 black cartridge replacement

The Epson XP-510 printer requires two separate black cartridges to be installed, a regular black for printing text and a photo black for printing graphics. The wider cartridge should be the regular black and the narrow one is the photo black. Each black is available in two different capacity sizes if you buy genuine Epson ink (26 or 26XL). We also offer cheaper compatible 26XL black or photo black cartridges which you can use instead of Epson's cartridges. Any cartridge with 'SETUP' written on it is different to the replacement Epson XP-510 inks we sell and is only used to get the printer up and running. SETUP cartridges aren't available from any retailers other than Epson and are usually only sold with the printer itself. We don't supply SETUP cartridges. Once you've initialised the printer using the SETUP cartridges you can then start using the normal Epson XP-510 replacement ink cartridges we sell.

Epson XP-510 Printer Review

Expert review of the Epson XP-510 printer

Our Verdict:

Versatility and wireless connectivity make the Epson Expression Premium XP-510 Wi-Fi all-in-one printer an attractive device for SOHO users. It boasts high-quality photo and text printing with user-friendly operation including fast duplex printing to minimise downtime and increase productivity. However, the Epson XP-510 colour inkjet printer may not be fast enough for the most demanding environments and high volume usage.

The minimalist Epson XP-510 all-in-one printer measures 390mm wide, 163mm tall, and 338mm deep, and weighs 5.9Kg. Its centrepiece is the 3.7cm diagonal colour touch-screen on the control panel. The Epson XP-510 Expression Premium printer can handle 100 sheets of plain paper or 20 photo sheets at a time. There's a CIS 1200x2400dpi scanner, and connectivity options for the Epson Expression Premium XP 510 all-in-one include USB and Wi-Fi.

This is an excellent photo printer with acceptable print speeds of up to 9.5ppm in monochrome and 9ppm in colour. The Epson XP-510 Wi-Fi printer is cheaper to operate in the long run because of individual ink cartridges for delivering fade and smudge-resistant photos. It's easy to operate the Expression Premium XP510 colour printer as it supports duplex copying and printing, and Wi-Fi connectivity allows for direct printing from tablets and smartphones. Borderless printing and automatic duplex are supported, as well as Google Cloud Print and Apple AirPrint. Quiet operation won't disrupt a small workspace. Claria Premium Ink used in the genuine Epson XP-510 cartridges can produce superb quality glossy photo prints at a very reasonable cost.

Manual configuration of the driver and paper settings is necessary to produce higher quality output. The paper capacity of the Expression Premium XP-510 printer is small. Using the XP510 inkjet printer for the first time can be overwhelming because it doesn't come with a printed user's manual (the manual needs to be downloaded).
