The Samsung SCX-4100 is a multifunction device that includes a laser printer, scanner and copier. This model is a revamped version of its predecessor, the Samsung SCX-4106. The machine has been designed for easy set up, and has safety mechanisms built in that help ensure users don't experience paper jams. It is compatible with both Linux and Windows operating systems, while Apple Macs are not supported with this particular printer. Overall, the machine has been designed for business applications, with only black and white printing options.
With the same general design as the 4106, this newer model only has slight differences in style and function. There is a paper output slot in the back that can be utilised if there is sufficient space. Clearance is needed for the front and top of the Samsung SCX-4100. The scanner opens upward about 90 degrees, requiring clearance there as well. An efficient LCD screen allows users to choose from the various options provided by the printer. A USB cable is required to connect the device directly to a computer.
In general, the Samsung SCX-4100 is a decent printer. It can print black and white pages at a maximum of 11 pages per minute, which falls in line with most laser printers in the same class. Easy to use buttons below and alongside the LCD display allow users to quickly change functions, and start new tasks with ease. As a copier, the SCX-4100 is a great choice as well, capable of scanning at high resolution and printing out near identical copies of the original.
For the scanner and copier, only one piece of paper can be used at a time. That means owners will have to manually stand by the Samsung SCX-4100 to do multiple scans or copies. Size is another issue. Having a small office may make this a less than ideal device, since it needs open space on all sides to reach full functionality. The backside also heats up quickly, necessitating space between the printer and a wall. Scanning speeds were slightly low as well, with an average of 3 to 4 pages completed in one minute. There is no fax machine on the device either, which means owners will have to scan to their computer and send a document online, or find another machine that is capable of faxing.
