HP LaserJet 2100xi Printer Review

Expert review of the HP LaserJet 2100xi printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

Aimed at workgroups that need a reliable monochrome printer for their basic document printing tasks, the HP LaserJet 2100xi is reasonably fast and capable of printing in high 1200x1200dpi resolution. It is notable for high quality performance and expandable options to match the needs of a growing business, but it is limited to typical office applications that don't require colour and can only use black HP LaserJet 2100xi toner cartridges.

Design

The boxy and heavy construction of the HP LaserJet 2100xi makes it a sturdy yet simple addition to an office that needs a printer for its low to mid-volume jobs. The LaserJet 2100xi printer measures 9.1 inches tall, 16.5 inches deep, and 16 inches wide, and runs on 4MB of RAM and a 66MHz processor. The device is integrated with a curved media path type, which is compatible with plain paper, envelopes, transparencies, post cards, and labels. Standard connectivity is provided by a parallel interface.

Advantages

The HP LaserJet 2100xi laser printer is fairly fast for low-volume output and the quality looks good at 1200x1200dpi. Graphics hardly lose their detail even when they are printed in monochrome. The compact frame allows the HP LaserJet 2100xi mono laser printer to be used in smaller spaces, while the optional infrared connectivity is convenient for wireless data transfer from compatible devices. Users can increase the media capacity to 350 sheets. The built-in memory of the HP 2100xi laser printer is expandable to 52MB.

Disadvantages

The maximum speed that the HP LaserJet 2100xi printer can go is only up to 10ppm, and to make it faster, users need to buy additional memory, which can be expensive. There are no built-in networking options, which limits its overall efficiency for a workgroup. Weight is another setback in the LaserJet 2100xi because at 11.52Kg, it can be difficult to move or transport. Media handling is limited to typical papers and envelopes used for basic office applications.
