HP Officejet 580 Printer Review
Expert review of the HP Officejet 580 printer
Aimed at users with a small office at home or at work, the HP Officejet 580 all-in-one combines the convenience of a scanner, copier, and printer in one with a fax machine. The Officejet 580 boasts time and space-saving features along with low running costs, but users may need to be patient with print speeds and the limited media handling and capacity of this device.
Design
The HP Officejet 580 all-in-one printer is designed to save space, so it is compact with a desktop form factor. It is integrated with an inkjet colour engine with a TWAIN scanner, copier, and fax machine. Connectivity relies on a wired parallel cable, and there are no networking options. The HP Officejet 580 has a 20-sheet autoload document feeder and a straight media path. The simple control panel lies on the top right-hand corner with neatly-arranged buttons and a small display screen above.
Advantages
The HP Officejet 580 inkjet printer is a decent digital copier that can produce up to 9 copies per minute. Users can also scan single page documents with the TWAIN-compliant scanner. The Officejet 580 printer is Energy Star-compliant and supports various types of media for the business such as glossy paper, transparencies, and envelopes. Users can print presentable text documents with the HP 580 multifunction printer because of the maximum 600x600dpi monochrome resolution.
Disadvantages
The scanner is sheet-fed only, so the HP Officejet 580 cannot accommodate thicker objects like magazines and books. Print speeds are sluggish at a maximum of 2ppm in both monochrome and colour. The outdated parallel interface limits connectivity to older computers only. The HP Officejet 580 is incompatible with Windows 7, and the fax machine is only limited to 14.4Kbps when transmitting messages. The device is not recommended for bulk or mid-volume print jobs because the input tray can only take up to 20 sheets at a time.
